Keywords:Grammatical Skills, Practice Exercises, Teacher-made test, Effectiveness
This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a practice exercise strategy in improving the grammatical skills of Grade 10-A learners at Tagudin National High School for the school year 2022-2023, from December 12 to January 18, 2023. This was conducted at Tagudin National High School. It involved 16 males and 35 females in the 10th grade.
A teacher-made test consisting of 30 items was used as the main gathering tool. The mean was employed to compare the scores of the learners in the pretest and post-test. The t-test was used to determine if there was a significant difference between the pretest and post-test results of the learners.
The findings revealed a significant difference between learners’ pretest and post-test scores in grammatical skills using the practice exercises strategy. Moreover, the study concludes that using practice exercises improves the learners’ grammatical skills. Further, it is recommended that teachers employ practice exercises to improve the learners’ grammatical skills. Teachers can employ practice exercises more frequently to improve their learners’ grammatical performance and to create compelling and effective learning activities. Further study may be done to test practice exercises in a broader scope of evaluation on their effectiveness as an approach for enhancing learners’ grammatical skills.
