This study aims to enrich the vocabulary of Grade eighth students of Laboratory High School, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College- Tagudin Campus in the academic year 2022-2023. It also aims to find out the change in students' performance before and after using the word search booklet. The respondents of this study are in total of 36 students. The researchers made an assessment – pre-test and post-test for data collection. The assessment is consisted of 20 questions, and the data gathered were studied, analyzed and computed through percentage mean and t-test. After the intervention and in the use of word search, the students got a good performance with a mean score of 15.61. It indicates that the students' performance is higher in the post-assessment compared to the initial assessment with a mean score of 11.89. The obtained T-value of pre-test and post-test is 9.981 higher compared to tabular t-value of 1.690 with 0.05 level of significance. Therefore, there is a significant difference in the students' performance before and after using the word search. This is a proof that the use of word search is effective in expanding the students' vocabulary. Based on the results, the students' vocabulary improved.
The researchers also suggest that the Filipino subject teacher should continue using word search to enrich the vocabulary of the students. Teachers and students should be open to all strategies such as word search as a medium to expand Filipino vocabulary. Researchers also suggest that the school should hold workshops that aimed to develop the teaching of Filipino subject.
